Why do you need sleep?
Every 24 hours or so, every person feels an unavoidable need to sleep. Sleep is not merely a “time out” from daily life, it is essential to good health and longevity.
How much sleep do you need?
There is no one formula for how much sleep is enough for you. Expecting all people to need the same amount of rest would be as absurd as expecting them to eat the same amount of food every day. Each of us seems to have an innate “appetite” that is as much a part of our genetic programming as hair colour, height and skin tone.
Some individuals can sleep 4 to 5 hours per night and wake up completely refreshed. Others feel sleepy even after awakening from 8 hours of sleep. Although sleep needs vary from person to person, most individuals need 7 to 9 hours of sleep. Studies show that after a good night sleep, there should be no daytime drowsiness during daytime activities. If there is, you are not getting enough sleep.
A good night’s sleep
A good night’s sleep should be uninterrupted. If you do not get enough sleep, you may feel tired during the next day. This may affect your concentration, or make you forgetful. You may find it more difficult to learn new skills or to do your work as well as you would like. It may also increase the possibility that you may have an accident, which can be particularly dangerous if you are working heavy machinery or if you have to drive a vehicle. Lack of sleep can make you short tempered or irritable, which may affect your relationships both at work and at home.
The importance of a good night’s sleep for a healthy lifestyle
A well rested body is one of the keys to a healthy, happy life. It has been scientifically demonstrated that a number of health problems, especially those, which surface later in life, can be avoided by sleeping well and comfortably. A good night sleep is not only invigorating, but also the ideal remedy against stress, now identified as a major cause of depression, psychological problems and in some cases even death.
Although sleeping may sound a very simple and natural concept, it turns out to be a very complex and important part of a person’s quality of life and life span. When we don’t get good sleep life becomes more stressful and less productive. We literally spend one-third of our lives in bed sleeping, and yet people spend more money on other various commodities and will spend very little money on good bedding products.
Better sleep always begins with the mattress for the very simple reason that since we cannot always get the necessary amount of sleep needed, we should try to get the most out of the sleep we get. If the mattress is not comfortable, you are being robbed of your sleep
Studies suggest that a lack of sleep can interfere with our immune systems, short circuit our growth, and raise our blood pressure. Reducing sleep by just an hour-and-a-half for a single night lowers daytime alertness by up to 33 percent. Many people simply refuse to accept the fact that they have been neglecting their sleep and have been reflecting in a negative way in their lifestyle.
